ABOUT THE POSITION The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for ensuring effective financial management, accounting, and risk management systems and directs the fiscal functions and management of the organization's $12MM+ annual budget. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will be involved in strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives. The CFO is also responsible for oversight of asset and property management of Avenue's rental housing portfolio. The ideal candidate has private and nonprofit experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Financial Management -Work closely with the Controller who will manage Finance & Accounting staff and consultants in the completion of all daily operation tasks.
-Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of all financial record keeping systems. -Manage preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements and create accompanying performance analysis and commentary.
-Responsible for cash management, including cash flow, internal transfers and banking relationships.
-Manage all internal and external audits.
-Advise and support VPs and Directors on financial concerns related to their departments or programs.
-Lead annual agency budget development and revisions and monitor budget compliance.
-Analyze financial results and prepare a monthly report for the Chief Executive Officer and for the Board of Directors.
-Ensure compliance with all agency financial performance and funder requirements. -Oversee the financial performance of multifamily portfolios managed by Avenue.
-Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer on budgeting and long-term financial planning for the agency.
-Advise and support the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors on issues related to Avenue's finances and assets.
Budgeting, Planning, and Policy Development -Provide financial leadership in developing strategic business plans and work closely with senior leadership Management Team members on departmental levels.
-Create financial forecasts, models or analyses as needed or required to support both short term decision making and longer-term strategic planning.
-Work closely with HR on group health benefits, professional development, compensation and other employee initiatives budgeting.
-Work closely with CEO, Board of Directors, Finance and Real Estate Committees. Risk Management and Cash Flow -Oversee cash and investments to appropriately balance risk, return and liquidity. -Responsible for managing general agency's service contracts.
-Work closely with VPs and Directors on tasks related to the successful management of the organization.
-Represent the company to financial partners including financial institutions, investors and other external entities as needed.
-Oversee and guide Director of Asset & Property Management's development, updates and implementation of Avenue strategic asset management plan.
-Provide leadership for all financial aspects of Avenue's real estate portfolio.
-Oversee ongoing assessments of operating reserve funding, maintenance needs and regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with Director of Asset & Property Management to ensure that Avenue's rental portfolio provides affordable, high quality rental housing, while also achieving financial goals and high rate of resident satisfaction.
-Work with Director of Asset & Property Manager on Standard Operating Procedures and Practices for financial performance, asset preservation and risk management.
-Review and analyze key property performance data.
-Key member for the strategic growth team for the portfolio.
-Participate in the due diligence process for new investments
Organizational Leadership -Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategies to achieve the mission, vision and values of Avenue.
-Represent Avenue in meetings and in communications with all stakeholders when the CEO is unavailable.
-Serve on the Finance Board Committee.

Education -Bachelor's Degree in Business administration, Accounting, or Finance -Advanced degree in these or closely related fields preferred. -CPA desirable, but not required
Experience Required -Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in managing finance and accounting departments and consolidation of multiple locations, complicated cash flow management, process improvement, and managing and performing independent audits. -Experience and knowledge of non-profits, grant accounting and/or multifamily real estate property management is preferred. -A minimum of 8 years of experience in a CFO or executive-level financial position reporting directly to CEO
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required -Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
-Ability to combine strategic, policy, and planning perspective with attention to details, internal controls and other concerns.
-Excellent computer skills including general ledger software (Sage Intacct system knowledge preferred), word processing, Super-User/Advanced Excel spreadsheets (Pivot Tables, formulas etc.), databases, and a working knowledge of information technology, both existing and emerging.
- High level of organization and the proven ability to complete complex tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
